The QTH has an elevation of 970 feet (292.66 meters).<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wa2bsw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Shack-2024-07-24.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3844 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/wa2bsw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Shack-2024-07-24-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"491\" height=\"368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wa2bsw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Shack-2024-07-24-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wa2bsw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Shack-2024-07-24-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/wa2bsw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Shack-2024-07-24-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wa2bsw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Shack-2024-07-24-1536x1153.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/wa2bsw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Shack-2024-07-24-2048x1537.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 491px) 100vw, 491px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The Photo to the right is of my setup on July 24, 2024.\u00a0 (For more setup info see my <a href=\"https:\/\/wa2bsw.com\/?page_id=1773\">Station Setup<\/a> page.)\u00a0 A K3\/P3, various morse code keys and a computer, what more could one need?\u00a0 Oh yes, towers with full size 40 and 30 meter yagis.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><em><strong>Computer in the shack<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Today the computer and internet access have become standard in the ham shack.\u00a0 I use a Mac Mini M4 computer.\u00a0 The main programs used are MacloggerDX for logging and FLDIGI and WSJT-X for digital modes.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><em><strong>Short History<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>I was first licensed as WV2BSW (Novice) September 1958 &#8211; Plainfield, New Jersey.\u00a0 The V changed to an A a year later when I became a Technician (WA2BSW).\u00a0 In April 1961, I took the trip to 641 Washington Street (NYC) and became a General.\u00a0 It was not until February of 1980 that I upgraded to Advanced.\u00a0 With an even longer time gap, 26 years later on 26 February 2006 I took and passed the extra.\u00a0 For a slightly more in-depth history please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/wa2bsw.com\/?page_id=1030\">My call sign and Ham Radio history<\/a> page.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>As of March 3, 2012 my call is K4DS.\u00a0 This is quite a change after 53 plus years with the\u00a0 same call.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><em><strong>Operating<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Most of my operating since 2005 has been on CW for several reasons as stated on my <a href=\"https:\/\/wa2bsw.com\/?page_id=109\">Morse Code &#8211; CW<\/a> page.\u00a0 I do operate on a limited basis other Digital modes.\u00a0 Of the non-CW digital modes I prefer Olivia.\u00a0 However, most of my digital activity is on FT8 and FT4.\u00a0 There are three reasons for this: there is far more activity on the FT modes, I can work DX on the FT modes and \u00a0I cannot type well. \u00a0I do manage one or two SSB contacts per year, but they are hard to get with my setup.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Amateur Radio Activity<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\">\r\n<table>\r\n<tbody>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td>Preferred Mode<\/td>\r\n<td>CW<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td>Preferred operating focus<\/td>\r\n<td>DX; Islands; Any station that hears my weak signal<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td>Awards<\/td>\r\n<td>\r\n<p><strong><em>Issued:<\/em><\/strong><br \/><strong>DXCC<\/strong> \u2013 Mixed 275 (281 valid current entities confirmed); CW 250 (277 valid current entities confirmed). However, when I write about working DX I do not consider most VE&#8217;s as DX.
